All aboard the Overwatch Hype Train!

Introducing Overwatch, the second game that I’m hyped for that’s slated to be released in 2015. Blizzard describes Overwatch as “a team-based shooter where heroes do battle in a world of conflict“, I think it’s best described as Team Fortress 2 (TF2) meets Dota.

It’s pretty obvious by now that I’m a huge TF2 fan, and no matter what I play I always end up going back to TF2. I actually tried Dota 2 when it came out, but it was super confusing for me and I just didn’t enjoy playing so I stopped. It always intrigued me though! All MOBAs do, I have friends who pour hours and hours into playing them and I’ve always wanted to get it. Watching them as a spectator has always been fun for me and even though I don’t fully understand the mechanics, I always enjoy myself.

From the trailers, Overwatch looks like a bridge between the two. You get the fast paced FPS action of TF2, but instead of classes you pick a hero. Already I can see some overlaps with the TF2 classes and the Overwatch heroes, but there are some really interesting variations and expansions.

What also really excites me are the WoC in this game, Pharah & Symmetra!

As much as I love TF2, and the characters dearly, the only option is to play as a White Male. Granted, I don’t spend a lot of time looking at myself (sans taunting) while I play, but sometimes it would be nice to play as someone who looks like me.

Overwatch BastionOr a giant primate! Seriously, the more videos I watch, the more excited I am about it. I’m not even trying to temper my hype for this one, I’m all aboard the hype train. If anything, it will give me (lover of FPS) and my friends (lovers of MOBAs) something to bond over.

Choo choo! ~
