I almost didn’t watch E3 this year, because between the game trailers and the actual games I always feel let down by what the games actually deliver. But, with the company of friends I settled down to watch Ubisoft’s Press Presentation and while I was wholly underwhelmed by most of it, one game did catch my attention. That game was Rainbow Six: Siege and with tempered excitement my friends and I got hyped. Tempered because this is pre alpha footage, and (regardless of what they say) feels really scripted.
Today I saw this…
and I let go of the tempered part of my excitement. This is a much more fluid, natural video of the game and it looks a lot like the original video did! The reason I love Team Fortress 2 as much as I do is because of the co-operation aspect, to me that’s the best kind of social, not Facebook integration.
A capture/defend the flag (hostage) game that requires high levels of co-ordination, co-operation and planning? That sounds amazing to me, and even though we don’t know much about the maps, other game modes or how single player will work, but what I’ve seen so far has made me want to watch the development of this game a lot more closely. Hopefully my friends are just as excited about this as I am, and I’ll be able to get a good team going. They just have to keep the game in this state and not try to make it a clone of any other military shooter and I’ll be really happy to play it.
